Hi, I’m Marvin Applegate — a German-American zoologist, professional dog trainer, and actor. I combine a scientific understanding of animal behavior with a practical, compassionate approach to helping dogs and their humans communicate clearly and live together with confidence.
I grew up in rural Germany surrounded by nature, farm animals, and dogs, where my connection with animals began early and never left me. I studied biology at the University of Hannover and earned my Bachelor of Science, followed by a Master of Science in Organismic Biology, Evolutionary Biology, and Paleobiology in Bonn. My academic work focused on animal behavior, ecology, and evolution, giving me a strong scientific foundation in how animals learn and interact with their environment.
After leaving academia, working hands-on with shelter dogs in Panama reminded me that real change happens through trust, patience, and everyday connection. That experience ultimately led me to pursue dog training professionally.
Now based on Florida’s Space Coast, I provide personalized, in-home training that helps dogs and their owners build calm behavior, clear communication, and lasting bonds. My philosophy is simple: every dog is an individual, and with empathy, structure, and positive reinforcement, every human–canine partnership can thrive.
I’m a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and stay committed to continuing education. I regularly expand my skills through workshops, courses, and current research to ensure every client benefits from modern, science-based training methods.

I’ve been fortunate to learn and work alongside respected institutions, educators, and animal professionals who continue to shape my approach to science, training, and education.
